2-Day Mount Hanang Trek

Day 1: Mount Hanang

Depart from Arusha in the morning and travel to Katesh, a small town on the foot of Mount Hanang, 237 kilometers from Arusha city. The area surrounding Mount Hannang is inhabited by Bargaig and Iraqw ethnic groups. Both tribes offer a wealth of culture; Barbaig women are often seen dressed in goatskin while men dress in dark and carry spears. Likewise, the Iraqw people dress in colourfull Kangas. This mountain is also an ideal place for bird watching with over 400 bird species having been recorded.

With its highest point standing at the height of 3,420 meters above sea level; Mount Hanang is Tanzania’s fourth highest mountain. Trekking this mountain offers you views of the Rift Valley.

Activity: Lunch at the base of the mountain then start your trek up the mountain. You will set up a camp at the campsite at midway to the peak and spend the night there.

Day 2: Summit attempt – descend and drive back to Arusha

You will make your final ascend; aiming at being at the summit at sunrise. After witnessing sunrise and taking photographs at the summit, you will descend to the base camp where you will have breakfast, rest for a short time then finish you descending to the starting point where the vehicle will be waiting for you, ready to drive back to Arusha.
