Southern Tanzania, is less trodden but still presents a wide range of safari experiences from savannah to wetland environments. Boating, fly camping, and guided walking tours are some of the activities to experience in the South.
Dar es Salaam is the main entry hub to this circuit which is remote, enormous, and untouched, but teeming with a spectacular diversity of wildlife.
The Selous Game Reserve, which is part of the Southern Circuit. It is the largest game park by area in Africa and is great for river expeditions on the Rufiji River. The Rufiji River lies wholly in Tanzania, and it is the largest and longest in the country. Its delta has East Africa’s biggest mangrove forest. Udzungwa Mountains National Park, which is famed for its forests and many waterfalls and some peculiar creatures; and Mikumi National Parks bordering the Selous Game Reserve, with its unique ecological system, are part of the Southern Circuit. This circuit also boasts of the Ruaha National Park, which is arguably the jewel of the circuit. Ruaha is the second-largest park in Tanzania and a great place for birdwatching. It is also popular for its huge numbers of big game.
As a result of inaccessibility by road to parks in this circuit, domestic flights would have to be booked.
The best time to visit this circuit is June- October in the dry season. This is because most routes are inaccessible during the rainy season.
Open-sided safari vehicles are available which allow tourists to have an all-round view of the surroundings.
