Tanzania is Africa’s treasure trove of both fabulous fauna and flora. It is a country of vastly varied topographies, such as pristine plateaus, as well as picturesque plains, and plantations. The country has enchanting valleys and hilly stretches and also boasts of beautiful palm-fringed white sand beaches, which are a marvel to behold. Tanzania, as a gem of tourism, is home to both the highest mountain and the deepest lake in Africa. The snowy summit of Mount Kilimanjaro is the pinnacle of the continent, while the depths of Lake Tanganyika are the deepest. The splendid Serengeti National Park is unrivalled when it comes to the spectacular Wildebeest Migration, while the Selous Game Reserve is, by area, the largest park in Africa.
There are four tourism circuits in Tanzania. These are: Northern Circuit, Southern Circuit, Western Circuit, and the Coastal Circuit.
The Northern Circuit has the parks, Serengeti, Tarangire, Manyara, Arusha, Mkomazi, and the Ngorongoro Crater. It also has the magnificent mountains, Kilimanjaro and Meru, among other tourist attractions. The Southern Circuit is prides itself for parks and reserves such as the Selous Game Reserve, Mikumi, and Ruaha, while the Western Circuit is boasts of parks like Gombe, Mahale Mountains, and Katavi. The Coastal Circuit is globally reputed for the pristine coastline of white sand beaches. The paradisaic archipelagos of Zanzibar and Pemba Island are great vacation destinations in the coastal circuit.
Statistics are that safari visitors to the northern, southern, and western circuits are 70, 20, and 5 percent respectively.
