Northern Tanzania, through the cosmopolitan getaway city of Arusha, is a safari destination of choice famous for numerous attractions. The lofty Kilimanjaro, the majestic Mount Meru, and the Serengeti, which is world famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration, are part of this circuit. The captivating Ngorongoro Crater, a caldera replete with an assortment of animal species, is also located in the Northern Circuit. The Olduvai Gorge, which is an important archeological and historical site lies within the Ngorongoro crater in the Northern Circuit.
This circuit is also famed for Lake Manyara National Park, home to the tree climbing lions. There are flocks of flamingoes in their thousands, feed along the shores of the alkaline lake, and a diversity of fauna and flora. Other notable parks are: Tarangire National Park, the sixth largest in Tanzania, and known for its high density of elephants and a great number of gigantic baobab trees; Arusha National Park, covering Mount Meru, a prominent volcanic mountain and the second highest in Tanzania; Kilimanjaro National Park, covering the mountain and surrounding montane forests; and the magnificent Mkomazi National Park.
This circuit is more expensive as compared to others, but it offers unrivalled trekking and wildlife viewing experiences. The best times to visit the Northern Circuit is June- October and December- March.
Majority roads in the wilderness are either dusty or muddy. Therefore, closed up vehicles having pop-up roofs and large windows are used mostly. The large window and pop-up roof provide for excellent viewing of the surroundings.
